Accelerated Degree Programs

Rensselaer’s ACCEL and ACCEL+ programs provide ambitious students with the opportunity to complete their degrees in a shorter timeframe:

Students work with academic advisors to develop a personalized plan that ensures success while maximizing opportunities.

ACCEL (Three-Year Bachelor’s Degree)

Open to students in the Schools of Engineering, Science, Management, and Humanities, Arts, and Social Sciences.
Students complete their undergraduate degree in three years by leveraging AP/transfer credits and summer coursework.
Students must participate in early ARCH (summer after first year) and complete the ARCH semester away (summer after second year).
Eligibility: Students must bring in at least 12 AP/transfer credits in STEM or other relevant fields before their first year and maintain good academic standing.

Allows students to earn both a bachelor’s and master’s degree in four years.
Students apply separately for a co-terminal degree following standard co-terminal application processes.
Master’s programs may offer additional financial aid opportunities.

Opt-In Deadline: February 15, 2025 (for early registration and early ARCH participation).
How to Apply: Complete the ACCEL Opt-In Form.
Applications will be reviewed by academic advisors, and decisions will be communicated by March 1.

Students only pay tuition for semesters they are enrolled for credit.
Standard financial aid remains available for all undergraduate semesters.
ACCEL+ students may receive up to two additional semesters of Rensselaer funding if accepted into a co-terminal program (three additional semesters for MBA students).

ACCEL students are automatically enrolled in early ARCH (summer after first year).
The ARCH semester away takes place in the summer after sophomore year.
Students who wish to participate in early ARCH without ACCEL should submit the Early ARCH Form (details here).

Can I join after freshman year? Yes, if ahead in degree requirements. Consult your advisor.
Can I opt out? Yes, students may opt out at any time and continue on a traditional four-year timeline.
Will participation affect my ability to study abroad or join extracurriculars? No, students can still participate in extracurriculars, study abroad, and internships.

Is there tuition savings? Students only pay for semesters they are enrolled.
Will I receive financial aid? Yes, standard aid applies for BS completion, plus up to two extra semesters for ACCEL+ students.

Can I do an internship? Yes, students may intern during the ARCH semester away and, for ACCEL+ students, during the summer after their third year.
Will early graduation affect job opportunities? No, employers recognize the rigor of accelerated programs, and students still have access to career development resources.
